When I tell people that Gaston Radiology has been independent since 1949, they usually assume that's the point of pride. And it is — but it's not the whole story.
The reason we've stayed independent isn't stubbornness. It's because independence is what allows us to build the kind of group we actually want to work in. Physician-owned means physician-run. It means the people reading the films are the same people making decisions about schedules, culture, and the future of this practice. That matters.
After 75 years, what I'm most proud of isn't our subspecialty coverage or our partnership structure - it's that the people in this group genuinely want to be here. We consult each other because we respect each other. We protect each other's time because we understand what it means. New members don't feel like new hires — they feel like they've joined something that was already worth joining.
