General Diagnostic Radiology is a painless x-ray examination (radiograph) used to evaluate the chest, spine, skull, extremities, hips, pelvis or abdomen. It is often used to evaluate suspected fractures or other indications of injury or abnormality.
Radiography involves exposing a part of the body to a small dose of ionizing radiation to produce pictures of the inside of the body. X-rays are the oldest and most frequently used form of medical imaging.
In addition to the more commonly perceived bone x-ray that makes images of any bone in the body, there are
also general diagnostic exams used for evaluating dieseases of the small and large intestines called gastrointestinal series (GI) and barium enema (BE) procedures. These abdominal procedures are guided by fluoroscopy and performed by radiologists. Another diagnostic exam evaluates the finction of the kidneys and is called an intavenous pyelogram (IVP).
As in all of our diagnostic imaging procedures, after your images are taken, the highly trained radiologists of Gaston Radiology then report the findings to the patients referring physician who will then discuss these results during the follow-up visit.
